  • IGNITE 2026

Spark of Grace Educators’ next gathering will take place 9:00 – 10:15 on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at First United Methodist Church in Springfield, Illinois.

WHAT: This special event will be a powerful time to dedicate the 2026–2027 school year to the Lord before the year begins. We will pray over, encourage, and bless the educational community as we step into a new season of purpose and calling.

WHO: The ceremony will be open to educators and ALL who support the educational community, including parents, administrators, school staff, and other community stakeholders.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Together, we will worship, pray, and hear uplifting messages from local leaders as we unite in faith and invite God to lead the year ahead. This promises to be a meaningful and hope-filled gathering as the Christian community comes together to seek God’s wisdom, blessing, and direction for students, educators, and schools throughout central Illinois.

Why a Commissioning & Prayer Ceremony?

Every school year begins with new opportunities—and new responsibilities. Teachers have the unique privilege of shaping minds, encouraging hearts, and influencing the lives of the students entrusted to their care. While educators bring knowledge, skill, and compassion to the classroom, we believe the greatest impact comes when they serve under God’s leadership.

Scripture reminds us that God does not simply send His people into their work alone. He promises to go before them, remain with them, provide wisdom, direct their steps, and work through them for His purposes (Deuteronomy 31:8; Proverbs 3:5–6; James 1:5; Philippians 2:13). And that is what it means to be the light of Christ! So, we call this gathering IGNITE, because this gathering will IGNITE that light for teachers as they begin their 2026 school year!

Throughout the Bible, God accomplishes His work through ordinary people who are willing to follow His lead. As Christian educators, we believe He continues to do the same today. God can use teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and others throughout the school community to encourage, support, and positively influence the lives of children. Our prayer is that every interaction, every lesson, every conversation, and every act of kindness becomes an opportunity for God to work.

That is why we gather before the school year begins—not simply to ask God to bless our plans, but to invite Him to lead them. During this Commissioning & Prayer Ceremony, we will pray over teachers and school personnel, asking God to fill them with wisdom, courage, discernment, compassion, and strength. We will also pray for the students whose lives they will touch, asking God to prepare their hearts, protect them, help them grow, and accomplish His good purposes in their lives.

This gathering is open to teachers, administrators, school staff, parents, pastors, and anyone who desires to pray for the schools and the children they serve. Together, we acknowledge that lasting influence comes not from our own efforts alone, but from God’s presence working in and through His people.

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:8

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God… and it will be given to you.” — James 1:5

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” — Philippians 2:13
